The most wonderful thing about Wieden + Kennedy’s creativity is that you never know what it will come up with next. It begins trends rather than following them. And its clients get the benefit of strikingly quirky ads with their core promise right in the hub.
It’s absurd what we do before Tyrrells get to you, is a case in point.
The campaign consisting of the TVC, Very important potatoes, and social media film, Fabulously curly, play on the absurd lengths that the brand will go to make its crisps taste so delicious…
…using the style of the world’s most famous absurd humour series, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which made British humour world famous in the ‘60s and ‘70s. And gave absurdism a massive following of ardent fans.
The ads also emphasise the crisp’s farm provenance by centering the ads around Tyrrells Court Farm. And spotlight Tyrrells’ distinctive black and white characters from the brand’s packaging.
The ads were created by Adam Newby, Will Wells and Greg Kouts at Wieden + Kennedy. They were directed & produced by Dog & Rabbit. The distinctive voiceover is by actor and impressionist, Peter Serafinowicz [The Tick, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Shaun of the Dead].
Wieden + Kennedy won the Tyrrells global creative account in December 2014 without a competitive pitch, and launched the brand’s first ever ad campaign in November, 2015 – a series of quirky posters.
