The 10th Doritos Crash the Super Bowl will be the last one. And Australia’s final chance to have a winner. In the past two years, Australia has had two filmmakers reach the finals and travel to the US to attend the Super Bowl.
Doritos Manchild and Finger Cleaner came so very close to winning the US$1m and being aired during the Super Bowl.
Manchild’s creator, Armand de Saint-Salvy, went on to be signed by Photoplay. Finger Cleaner was one of five semi-finalists and won Tom Noakes US$25,000.
Since 2006, Doritos has given away more than US$7million in prize money and helped to launch many careers.
This year, fans around the world will be invited for the last time to create a 30 second TV commercial that could air during the Super Bowl. The ad that packs the most punch will win its creator US$1 million dollars and the chance to collaborate with Zack Snyder and work with Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment in a role tailored to the contest winner’s interests. A special feature of the final crash the Super Bowl is that two other finalists will each receive US$100,000 and an opportunity to consult on an upcoming Doritos project.
Submissions are open until November 15 2015.
Since the first Crash the Super Bowl, the contest has received 32,000 consumer submissions. Three years ago, the contest was opened to Doritos fans outside the United States and creative spots started pouring in from all corners of the world. Last year, the contest received submissions from 29 different countries and Canadian, Graham Talbot’s, Doritos commercial, When Pigs Fly, was the ad chosen to air during the broadcast of Super Bowl XLIX.
“Over the past nine years the Crash the Super Bowl contest has provided a platform for our boldest fans to showcase their work, make a name for themselves and help shape the Doritos brand,” Ann Mukherjee, president, PepsiCo Global Snacks Group and PepsiCo Global Insights, commented.
Doritos’ Crash the Super Bowl judges will select semifinalists at the end of November. In January 2016, three finalists will be revealed and fans will be able to view the advertisements online and vote for their favourite, which will determine which spot will air during the Super Bowl broadcast. Each of the finalists will be invited to California to attend Super Bowl 50 and watch the game from a private suite and for the first time in the history of the contest, all of the finalists will receive career opportunities in addition to cash prizes. The commercial that received the most votes on www.Doritos.com will air during the February 7, 2016 broadcast of Super Bowl 50 on the CBS television network in the United States.
Zack Snyder noted, “Only the Doritos brand gives aspiring filmmakers an opportunity to see their ads air during the Super Bowl. I started my career making commercials and remain a big fan of the medium. Having made several Super Bowl commercials myself, I’m really excited to be a part of this year’s contest. It is the venue which always produces the most innovative and exciting work. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.”
