Australian singer-songwriter Danielle Spencer is making a return to music with her first single in 14 years, Regenerate. 13CO filmmaker, Adam Kiers’, highly stylised narratives, challenging and unconventional, are helping to make that return triumphant. Kiers, who is already known for his work with artists such as The Presets and Ngaiire, has created a visually captivating music video with vibrant colours, theatrical costumes and dynamic camera work to take viewers into its world.

The video, that explores themes of renewal and transformation, complements the song’s evocative lyrics and haunting melodies perfectly. It traces Spencer’s artistic evolution, blending bold fashion, expressive choreography and vivid storytelling. Kiers’ hallmark style is apparent, inviting viewers to be curious with its richly emotive, powerfully graphic imagery.

That imagery moves from synchronised choreography to striking close-ups of Spencer herself, every element of the production contributing to the video’s overarching theme of regeneration. The minimalist yet impactful set designs allow the performers to shine while maintaining an air of intimacy and connection.
The video features choreography by Sela Vai and styling by Fleur Egan, H&MU by Sarah Laidlaw, all highlighting Spencer’s distinctive aesthetic and enhancing the narrative.
Kiers commented, “Dani wanted a music video somewhere between a dark, gothic fantasy film and an Alexander McQueen Runway show. There were four distinct characters, and we transformed our studio into complimentary character worlds using light, video projections, then set extensions in post. I loved the symbolism of the concept, and it was great to continue experimenting with light, projections, colour and movement.”
The release of Regenerate marks a pivotal moment in Spencer’s career, reintroducing her as a vital force in the Australian music scene. The music video has been well received by critics, hailing it as a bold artistic statement. Spencer recently performed the song at this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Party.
Meanwhile Kiers is in post-production on his latest short film, Killing Moonlight, a haunting story of a family confronted with an impossible decision. The film weaves surreal imagery, tension and raw emotion into a visceral exploration of morality, sacrifice and the unspoken bonds that tether us to one another. It is produced by Zac Warneford and executive produced by Roy De Giorgio via Film Exotic and 13CO.

Kiers has worked with a vast range of global brands, networks and artists including Virgin, Paspaley, Paramount+, The Discovery Channel, Fitbit, Hydralyte, Channel Ten, G Flip, No Mono and Ngaiire. His work has also been featured in OUTFEST LA, Melbourne Queer Film Festival, Berlin underground film festival, Junkee, SMH, Clipped Music video festival and Director’s Notes. Kiers was awarded Best Director at the 2022 Sydney Music and Arts Culture Awards and has picked up two Gold and two Silver for excellence in Direction at Promax ANZ.
He joined 13CO mid-2023, following his beautifully crafted first work for Paspaley:
