BoConcept is an urban furniture and furnishings chain from Denmark with 270 stores in 60 countries throughout the world (two in Sydney). And an interior design service as a drawcard.
It’s a little like an upmarket Ikea, but way cooler.
Mads Mikkelsen is a Danish actor. He’s ‘way cool’ too, after starring as a chilling Hannibal Lecter in the TV series, Hannibal, and James Bond’s first main villain, Le Chiffre, in Casino Royale.
The Call is a sexy, sophisticated short film starring Mikkelsen and Swedish actress, Malin Buska. It happens to be styled by BoConcept. And it happens to sell BoConcept rather well.
“I very rarely take on commercial roles, but these films are different. BoConcept allowed professional film makers to do what they do best and I am very happy to have had the opportunity to create something unique and special together with a team of great Danish colleagues,” Mikkelsen commented.
He did create. He was involved in the script development, with director and friend, Dejan Cukic, and technical director, Thomas Busk, who had worked with Mikkelsen on the film, The Salvation, that made its screening debut last year to a standing ovation at Cannes.
Malin Buska received the Rising Star award at the Stockholm International Film Festival in 2011.
The film was shot for six days on location in Valencia, Spain at the home of BoConcept’s global designer, Morten Georgsen. The team insists that film is not an ad. It is. And a clever one. The lifestyle it shows is a fantasy every young urban would like to play out. Its ‘set’ – the villa and its views, interior design and furniture – are threaded into that. These, at least, may be purchased.
BoConcept visual manager, Jette Christensen, explains how furniture, materials and accessories were carefully selected to create the perfect backdrop for the film:
“You can take our concept in many different directions, but in this case, we wanted to achieve a mature, luxurious ambience to complement Mikkelsen’s character. We combined dark colours with fine natural materials such as leather and marble as well as shiny materials on lamps, cushions and rugs to add a touch of glamour.”
