Curious Film has won Asia Pacific Production Company of the Year at Ciclope for the 2nd year running. Alt.vfx is Asia Pacific Visual Effects Company of the Year.
Curious has done its bit to put Australian and New Zealand production on the global map at Ciclope International Advertising Craft Festival in Berlin, no question.
First, executive producer Peter Grasse starred on stage for the second year in a row, this year hosting the panel discussion, Technology’s Toll: the Future of Film Craft in a Post-Digital Age.
Then, he interviewed keynote speaker, Roman Coppola, founder and owner of The Director’s Bureau, which it was universally agreed, was the highlight of this year’s event.
Lastly, capping even that moment in the sun, Curious was named Asia Pacific Production Company of the Year at Ciclope for the 2nd year running.
“Interviewing Roman was totally unexpected,” Grass confided. Rolling Stone Magazine was initially booked for the job, but, at the last minute, the festival organisers handed me the mic. It was an exciting challenge and I greatly appreciated the chance to talk with a fellow filmmaker about his craft. Watch out James Lipton!”
Ciclope’s stopped handing out bronze, silver and gold medals this year (its 5th). Instead, it curates a collection of the very best in each category.
It received 804 entries in more than 20 categories divided into five sections: Live Action, Animation, Sound, Digital and Special Section.
The jury panel, chaired by Marisa Clifford of Pulse Films, Michael Ritchie of Revolver/Will O’Rourke, Michael Di Girolamo of Station Film and Johannes Ahlund of B-Reel applauded 53 entries. Four were given Grand Prix awards:
- Adventure Awaits by Blinkink
- The Bear and the Hare by Blinkink and Hornet Inc.
- Happy by Iconoclast
- Iron Sky by Somesuch & Co.
Companies are then ranked according to points scored during judging and The Best companies by region are named.

Curious Film won Best Production Company
Alt.vfx won Best Visual Effects Company
Shenzhen Dans Digital China won Best Digital Company.
2. In Europe & USA:
MJZ won Best Production Company
Glassworks won Best Visual Effects Company
Eclectic won Best Music Company
Mediamonks won Best Digital Company
3. In Latin America:
Landia won Best Production Company
