EMC Productions has brought in emerging Chinese producer, Jiawei Li, as a key force to expand the London film company. He is a driving force behind the newly founded Green Brick, an initiative focused on fostering cross-cultural collaboration between the UK and Chinese film industries that will also focus on international films projects, commercials and music videos.

At the heart of this expansion is TRAMP, EMC’s debut feature film, a groundbreaking sports drama that explores the raw intensity of mixed martial arts (MMA) alongside the challenges of pregnancy and motherhood. The film follows Grazyna “The Tramp” Jarzynowska, a British-Polish MMA fighter whose meteoric rise is suddenly derailed by an unexpected pregnancy. Facing the pressures of a male-dominated sport and the fallout from a failed abortion, Grazyna must summon every ounce of physical and emotional strength to reclaim her future.

TRAMP, directed by Philip James McGoldrick, an award-winning filmmaker with over 50 international award nominations, blends gritty, high-stakes MMA fights with deeply personal struggles, making it a powerful and emotionally charged film. The film’s standout cast features Izabella Malewska [Holby City, Cold Feet], Alessandro Babalola [Top Boy, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, dir. Guy Ritchie], as well as real-life athletes such as kickboxer and Muay Thai champion, Ruqsana Begum. It also stars Ruth “Ruthless” Nelson, a three-time British World Champion Kickboxer, adding an unmatched level of authenticity and intensity to the film’s portrayal of combat sports.

The film’s striking cinematography is by Tristan Chenais [Rogue Agent, Dust to Dreams, dir. Idris Elba], enhanced by the finesse of Jia Lang’s colour grading.

Jiawei Li played a pivotal role in the production and post-production of TRAMP, contributing as an editor. He also leads the film’s distribution and licensing in China, ensuring that the film reaches a wide audience across Asia. As a producer for EMC China and Green Brick, Jiawei is dedicated to bridging the UK and Chinese film industries, fostering new talent, and advancing the globalisation of cinema.
TRAMP set to debut at major film festivals this year with Jiawei spearheading its Chinese market strategy and positioning himself as a major player in the evolving international film landscape.
