…from Cannes Lions Marketer of the Year 2014. DDB Chicago reawakens what advertising was like before we all went made for gizmos and causes.
McDonald’s GOL! is not going to save the planet or create world peace. It’s not “ground-breaking”. There’s no tech-innovation. It’s a formula ad that has been done a thousand times.
And it works.
It makes me forget that the idea of a fast food company sponsoring a world sport like FIFA prickles. It makes me overlook the glittery lure of the FIFA fries packs and their AR game, designed to flog more Maccas. It makes me ignore that the idea of Maccas’ FIFA burgers jars.
It makes me forget that it’s a cute cat ad using people, with a brand attached. It makes me feel good. It makes me feel good about Maccas. That’s a great result.
