Burger King and McDonald’s may have spent the best part of a decade in a game of advertising thrust and parry, but KFC France and Burger King have become best-est friends. The two fast food chains have launched a unique co-branded burger, the BFF Burger, accompanied by a mad social media stunt twisting the most viral social video of the year, Motoya Por Favor. This moment, from the Spanish show, La Isla de las Tentaciones (Temptation Island), features a contestant overreacting on discovering that his girlfriend is cheating on him…and a generous splash of McDonald’s mockery.
Without spending a single euro, Havas Paris rewrote the story to create a hilarious drama around our three characters – KFC, Burger King, and poor McDonald’s.
The ground-breaking social hacking campaign, generated an incredible buzz for KFC France: 20 million+ impressions without any paid media investment, +13% growth on turnover and +4% growth of transaction.

“This creative hijacking perfectly captured the spirit of this unprecedented collaboration between two traditionally competing brands,” stated Stéphane Gaubert, CCO of Havas Paris. “By leveraging a powerful cultural moment and infusing it with both brands’ DNA, we created an authentic campaign that resonated with a broad audience.”

Who knows how far the love-hate relationship will go…
