A possum party at your house – that’s the great Australian nightmare. M&C Saatchi puts Australia’s biggest pest to really good use for NRMA, because with NRMA ‘…you’re covered even if you forget to lock your door or window.”
So a possum invasion becomes the metaphor for a burglary. And to give the story the right tone (after all, NRMA has solved the problem), it is told – with humour – from a possum’s perspective. Right down to the night vision view.
“After launching the new positioning, NRMAde Better, it was important to quickly follow up with proof of ‘better.’ This spot is fun, surprising and delivers its message with a smile,” M&C Saatchi creative director, Gary Dawson, noted.
It was directed by Rey Carlson from Playbig Pictures with CG animation led by VFX supervisor, Colin Renshaw, and his team at Alt.
“When M&C first approached us with the idea we were very excited. Who wouldn’t jump at the chance to create something as cool as a gang of marauding possums,” Colin Renshaw, founder of Altvfx, acknowledged.
“Even with our previous experience in creating photo realistic animals, this project had plenty of new challenges for our animators. The brief was to create possums that moved as they would in nature.”
The 30 second TVC is the spearhead of a campaign that includes digital, poster, radio and print.
