McDonald’s has created a lot of emotional family moments adverts. A LOT of emotional family moments adverts. But somehow, every new one feels fresh and first…and just right. Perfect little stories that are not unique but are unequivocally relatable. Stories about lives we’re living or lives we know. Leo Burnett UK has just created two to promote the chain’s relationship with UberEATS. Two that are very “just right”.
Each of the stories highlights a reason we end up getting take away. One is about a working couple. It’s called Passing Ships so you can guess how the story goes. The other is called Play Date. It’s about a dad and a gaggle of kids. Passing Ships will make you cry. Play Date will make you laugh. Both make McDonald’s and UberEATS not just heroes, but “saviours”.
Each of the films is underscored by its own song by Finger Music.
Composer, Anthony Adams, and up-and-coming singer, Lulla, provide a bittersweet symphony for Passing Ships. Bandmates, Christopher Phelps and Sam Burden, produced a more buoyant song for Play Date, underlining the frenetic activity being shown.
Clare McGrath, executive producer at Finger Music, commented, “For Passing Ships, we wanted something that would help tell the story without being too sad or downbeat – the couple isn’t breaking up! It’s a story about a modern couple who are in love but are working hard – a story most people today can relate to. In this crazy busy world, it’s the little things that count in a small moment for two people. For Play Date, we wanted something upbeat, fun, and authentic – nothing that felt contrived, but complemented the visuals easily. It helped to tell the story of a dad left alone with several kids and the fun and mischief they get up to.”
