MAW Communications has added 12 staff members and expanded from one office to three.
That’s because it has been winning new business. And it seems to have been winning new business since it gave itself a new name and a fresh new look, that went with its reignited a pedal-to-the-metal attitude.
In less than a year, MAW Communications has expanded from a four-man operation into a flourishing communications agency. Billings have tripled and “the energy is palpable”, according to creative partner, Luke Dean-Weymark. Weymark also happens to be Australia’s leading Pinterest influencer, with 850,000 followers.
New clients include Yamaha Motor, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Rhino Rack, Suunto Watches, The National Trust and Shimano.
What triggered the surge of new work was its rebrand from Men At Work Communications to MAW Communications. This reflected a shift away from the agency’s original positioning. The agency that has focused predominantly on male-oriented products gave itself a broader consumer focus.
“The Men At Work positioning was highly successful for our business,” Luke explained. “It gave us a point of difference and allowed us to approach a lot of businesses that might traditionally be ignored by a normal PR agency.
“But we had to grow, we had to evolve. We have our origins in PR, but we’ve expanded into a creative, content marketing and social media business, and a part of this evolution has involved changing our offering.
“It didn’t make sense for the business to restrict ourselves to a specific vertical and a specific skillset, so we have broadened our focus. The industry is changing so rapidly, and we had to evolve and change with it. It’s the best thing we could have done as a business.
“The last year has seen us bring on 12 new staff members, including creative and content strategists, account managers, new business development officers and social media experts. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride but we aren’t stopping here.”
MAW creative partner, Michael Willcocks, (who is also a competition-winning BBQ master) added, “This has always been an amazing workplace, but now we really feel like we’re going places. The growth has been insane, and we are finding ourselves pitching for big name clients across a range of categories. Watch this space, there are bigger and better things to come.”
The agency has expanded to open a Queensland office, and is currently opening a third office overseas.
