In July this year, DB Breweries and Colenso BBDO launched a high performance 98 octane fuel, DB Export Brewtroleum. Made from the yeast leftover after DB finishes brewing its beer.
Its call to action was irresistible: Drink DB Export. Save the entire world.
The Brewtroleum concept was developed by Colenso BBDO to become part of DB Export’s new mantra of Made by Doing. The bio-fuel was sold at Gull service stations and the idea was so successful, DB launched a non-alcoholic version so that everyone could “save the entire world”.
DB Breweries and Gull jointly won the Renewables Innovation Award for Brewtroleum at the NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards in November.
Nick Worthington, creative chairman at Colenso BBDO, commented, “Brewtroleum is a great example of how creativity can be used to solve a very real business and marketing challenge. It’s brilliant that both DB and Gull have been recognised for getting behind this idea and making it a reality when they could have easily said ‘just make us an ad.”
