Apple is beginning to have a Christmas tradition: touching 90 second Christmas ads whose stories show teens fitting into family life… ads with such emotive power that you have to look twice for it to register that they are ads about Apple products being useful.
Last year’s ad, Misunderstood (A Harris Family Holiday), won a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Commercial.
This year’s The Song is also directed by Park Pictures’ Lance Acord and created by TBWA/Media Arts Lab. It, too, will make you cry.
The story is about a girl creating a gift for her grandmother, using Apple technology to turn an old tune, Our Love Is Here to Stay, into a duet, which the granddaughter packages with old photographs form her grandma’s life. And this year’s ad is an Apple product spectacular. There’s a MacBook, an iPhone, an iPad and an iPad mini 3 featured.
“With a Mac, iPhone or iPad you have the power to create thoughtful, emotional gifts and memories that transcend time. It could be a movie, a homemade card or a song that brings two generations closer together,” Apple states in its ad blurb.
