On June 14, President Emmanuel Macron announced that all the French cafés, restaurants and bars were able to fully reopen after 11 weeks of lockdown.
DDB° Paris and McDonald’s were quick to respond, anticipating what was to come in a 60-second commercial broadcast on national TV right after President Macron’s speech. Cleverly, the film makes McDonald’s a place where “everybody knows your name”, reminding people of its comforting familiarity with personal story snippets such as, “Here, very soon, Sam is going to order his Big Mac without pickles…Here, over a Happy Meal, Mia is going to see her little cousin, Ethan, with one baby tooth less…”
The film ends with the words, Come back as you are, a post-Covid version of its famous line, Come as you are.
The commercial was directed by Olivier Babinet. The soundtrack is by Jean-Benoît Dunckel of musical duo, Air.
