Before the official votes are tallied, The Stable has dished out a few Super Bowl awards of its own. Maybe there’s more to come. But here is the winners list so far:
T-Mobile must win the award for the cheesiest ad of the Super Bowl. It’s a revamped version of the 1978 Grease hit, Summer Nights, in all hyper-emotional glory, featuring John Travolta and Scrubs actors, Zach Braff and Donald Faison.
DoorDash must win the award for the most random use of celebrities. Those celebrities are Matty Matheson of Hulu’s The Bear, Raekwon The Chef from Wu-Tang Clan and Nickelodeon’s stop-motion-animated Tiny Chef. The delivery service returns to the Super Bowl for the first time since its Big Game debut in 2021 from The Martin Agency and DoorDash’s in-house creative studio, Superette.
E-Trade wins the award for the cutest lure. Its baby competed with Evian’s in the US for ultimate cuteness until he disappeared in 2014. But now he’s back and Evian’s isn’t. The Super Bowl spot is by MullenLowe US.
The tearjerker award goes to The Farmer’s Dog, a stupendous effort for a first appearance at the Super Bowl, created internally.
The fresh food for dogs delivery service will run a 60-second version of its 1.45 minute commercial at the Super Bowl. The commercial wasn’t made for the Super Bowl. The company saw its power and seized the moment.
Crown Royal (and Anomaly) win the cheekiest ad award. Dave Grohl gives a 30-second tribute to Canada during the most American event on the day when all eyes are turned to America. Grohl even dares top suggest that football came from Crown Royal’s homeland.
Doritos wins two awards – biggest surprise and borrowed pop stars’ fame. First Doritos teased us with the idea that Jack Harlow and Miss Elliott were going to star. Then it surprised us with Elton John. The Goodby Silverstein & Partners spot play’s into the brand’s Try Another Angle positioning.
Turbo Tax wins the brainworm award. Aaargh, that song! Weren’t you glad when Men Without Hats’ The Safety Dance slipped out of the charts. Now it’s back. Wieden + Kennedy’s 45 seconds of unbridled elation comes with a four-word message, Don’t do your taxes.
Fave ad this year? Has to be Mr. Peanut.
