Sonar Music film composer, Antony Partos, has just added another haul of awards to the impressive array on his mantelpiece.
His soundtrack for BAFTA nominated film, Sherpa, won Best Music for a Documentary at the Australian Guild of Screen Composers and APRA Screen Music Awards and Best Original Music Score in a Documentary at the 2015 AACTA Awards.
On the back of Partos’ success for Sherpa, Lakeshore Records is releasing the multi-award winning score, Sherpa Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
Partos’ work on the Venice Film Festival winning feature Tanna (2015), won Best Music for a Feature Film at the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards 2016 – ahead of the scores for Mad Max and The Dress Maker.
These awards join Partos’ AFI Awards for Best Feature Score for Animal Kingdom, The Rover, Disgrace, The Home Song Stories, And Unfinished Sky; his AGSC Award for Best TV Theme for The Slap, his AGSC Award for Best Telemovie Score for Mabo, his AGSC Award for Best Music in a TV Series and Best Song for a TV drama for Rake and his AACTA Award for Best Music Score in Television for Redfern Now.
Partos is known for the distinctiveness of his scores that blend both acoustic and electronic elements with an eclectic mix of exotic instruments.
Sherpa is the story of a group of filmmakers who set out to make a film of the 2014 Everest climbing season, from the Sherpas’ point of view. Instead, they captured a tragedy that would change Everest forever. It is distributed by Transmission Films and directed by Jennifer Peedom and launches in Australian cinemas this week.
Tanna, the first-ever film shot entirely in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu, is the story of young forbidden love based on the true story of dramatic events that took place on the volcanic island of Tanna in 1987. The film was directed by Australian documentary duo, Bentley Dean and Martin Butler.
Sonar Music producer, Sophie Haydon, commented, “Ant is so incredibly talented, his scores are so beautifully crafted. He never ceases to amaze us.”
